JDocs - Best Practice, Better Practitioners.

Dear Prevocational Colleagues and JDocs Subscribers,

As your interim Chair, it is my great pleasure to introduce your new Chair, Dr David King. Dr King joins the committee as a new College Councillor with extensive experience in the EMST course and previous participation in the PSEC committee. I am confident that he has the support of the PSEC team and other Councillors to ensure the best course delivery the College is able to supply.

As such, I have passed on the banner (and the workload) to him. I know he is supported in the JDocs portfolio to improve the CPD offering to the junior doctors. I would personally be very supportive of any initiative that encourages junior doctors to develop and maintain a logbook and CPD. Lifelong learning is one of the joys of being a surgeon, and my daily practice constantly challenges me and drives me to continue to study and develop my knowledge. Our collective CPD compliance is an excellent substitute for an annual board exam.

The skills courses have offered value for many years, and many hours of hard work has gone into the development and their constant upkeep. I hope that participants take away the key skills provided and offer their own time to teach them once they graduate from their training. Like all of the offerings of the College, we need more instructors, more trainers, more reviewers and more assessors. I hope that you offer your time and energy as willingly as your instructors so we can continue to offer these courses in-house and maintain their affiliation with surgical practice in Australia.

Please offer your support to Dr David King and I look forward to seeing you on either the EMST or TIPS courses.

Dr Sarah Coll

Chair, Prevocational and Skills Committee Chair (PSEC)
